A 1250cc Screamin' Eagle Revolution engine with big-bore cylinders and ported heads provides 123 horsepower and 86 ft. lbs. of torque. A 240mm rear tire, drag bars, forward controls, a Profile Laced Aluminum front wheel, drag visor and unique paint and decals with a redesigned version of the famous #1 logo, combine to make this motorcycle a winning entry into the VRSC family. Harley Davidson VRSCB V-Rod (2005)

The VRSCB model starts with the idea that with 115 horses running directly beneath your saddle, you don’t need much more. So we left the muscle intact and turned the brightness down. You get the same genetics that make a V-Rod® a V-Rod. Aluminum body. 49mm 38° raked fork. 180mm rear tire. The effect of all the shine getting stripped down is an even more raw, aggressive nature. Black calipers. Black brake lines. Black hand controls. Black rear shock springs. And an all-black hydro-formed frame. For 2005, there are five colors and a new, brighter reflector optics headlight to offset all the blackness. The liquid-cooled, fuel-injected 60° V-Twin Revolution® engine with EFI delivers all those stampeding horses. So as the style goes minimalist, the off-the-line power most definitely does not.

Harley Davidson XL 1200N Sportster 1200 Nightster (2009)

Ready to wheel its way through the alleyways and backstreets, the Nightster takes the Sportster legend in a dark direction with timeless styling. Black finishes cover wheel rims and hubs, forks and handlebars, hand and foot controls. Old school style fork gaiters and a bullet-hole belt guard emphasize the original look. A low suspension puts the rider at seat height of just 676mm. The new smaller front fender complements the clipped rear fender. The soulful 1200 Evolution engine growls through a chrome staggered exhaust with dual mufflers.

In a first for the Harley-Davidson Motor Company, the European specification version of the Nightster features longer travel rear suspension for improved cornering clearance on Europe’s twisty roads. Riders seeking a lower ‘slammed’ look can easily fit shorter rear suspension units offered through Harley-Davidson Genuine Parts and Accessories.

Harley Davidson XL 1200N Nightster

By Toph Bocchiaro
With this year being the 50th anniversary of the H-D Sportster, we were really looking forward to what the MOCO had up its sleeve for a special anniversary-issue scoot. Reminiscent of H-D's 100th, the XL's 50th wasn't much of a celebration for a bike with such history-the limited-edition XL came bearing nothing more than some commemorative badges, stickers, and paint. Aside from the addition of EFI to the entire lineup, the Factory still had a surprise in store for the '07 Sportys. Announced about six months after the rest of the new '07 models, H-D debuted the XL 1200N, the Nightster.

For the unobservant, the Nightster might reflect just another iteration of flat paint and mixtures of medium-gray powdercoat and black. In fact, the majority of the components on this bike have been carefully designed to emanate a sinewy, asphalt-jungle ethos. One of the most significant redesigns on this bike is the chopped rear fender. In addition to the shorter rear skin, the taillight and license mount have been moved to the left side of the rear wheel. Another nice touch was integrating the brake and taillights into the rear turn signals. Up front, the black 39mm forks got fork gaiters, while the new front fender mounts received the lightening-hole treatment.

With the stitched solo seat coming in at a mere 25.3 inches from the ground, the Nightster puts the rider as close to the pavement as the 883 Low and a full inch shorter than the 1200 Low. That low seat height comes courtesy of the rock-like 11.5-inch rear shocks. Although H-D claims 2.4 inches of rear-wheel travel, riding the Nightster feels as if there's less than that. Combining the low-profile seat (which is moved forward compared to a 1200 Custom) and the mid-mount pegs makes the Nightster a compact bike. Of course, lowering any bike reduces ground clearance, too, with the front exhaust pipe touching down before the peg in right-handers.

Coming in at a dry 545 pounds, the Nightster feels lighter than that, probably due to its low center of gravity. It is an extremely nimble machine, slicing through traffic and slow-moving parking lots with ease. The rubber-mounted chassis makes a happy home for the fuel-injected 1,200cc Evo XL motor, with vibes apparent only at idle. Once moving, even at 85-mph highway cruising speeds, the black mirrors were actually usable. The new EFI worked flawlessly in temps varying from the 40s to near triple-digits, with the electronic brain taking care of cold-start duties. Turn the key, thumb the electric leg, and get the fun on.

Dunlop 401 tires wrapped around black-rimmed laced-steel rims hugged the road tightly enough to reach the roughly 30-degree lean limits on either side. Up front, a standard two-piston caliper stops well enough with help from the rear's single-piston unit. Blacked-out, low-rise handlebars, controls, and speedo keep with the dark theme of the bike while providing a comfortable riding position. Clutch effort is very manageable, as is the shifting from the well-honed XL five-speed gearbox. Our test bike came with the two-tone brilliant silver denim and black denim paint option that adds $395 to the $9,595 MSRP for a Vivid Black version. Other new two-tone color options are mirage orange pearl and vivid black, olive pearl denim and black denim, and suede blue pearl and vivid black. The denim hues are matte finishes that complement the lack of chrome very well. H-D used a satin metal treatment on the gas cap, oil dipstick, and headlamp trim ring-these little touches make a stock bike like this come off as custom.

In fact, there isn't a place on this bike that wasn't thought about and gone over. It works from an aesthetic standpoint, as well as being one heck of a fun ride. Are you going to want to tour the country on it? Probably not. But if you want to have that feeling of pure unadulterated two-wheeled fun, this bike is for you. The new breed of Sportys no longer qualifies as the paint-shakers of yesteryear. Instead, you get all the Sporty's traditional torque, agility, and attitude combined with the reliable technology of today. Harley Davidson XL 883R Sportster

The Sportster 883R caught a few by surprise last year when it came barreling down the pavement. A quick glance might have made you think a Harley Grand National dirt track bike was doing a victory lap around the block. With its orange and black racing paint scheme. Wide, dirt track-inspired bars. Curved chrome 2-into-1 exhaust. Components cloaked in a black satin finish. Anniversary fender decal. There's plenty to pump a fist in the air about. The power of a Harley 883cc Evolution V-Twin engine, black powder-coated and 100TH Anniversary stamped. Race-style seat. Short-stem mirrors and bullet-style turn signals. Dual front disc brakes. Turns out it was a victory lap after all.

Harley Davidson FXDB Dyna Street Bob (2009)

Refreshed FXDB Dyna Street Bob: A modern distillation of classic post-war Bobber design, the Dyna Street Bob is stripped down to the edge of street-legal trim. That look gets refined for 2009, with a new rear fender chopped even higher and topped with a curved, retro LED tail light. The solo seat gets redesigned, and new laced wheels feature gloss black rims. Internally wired mini-ape-hanger bars, the authentic Fat Bob fuel tank and wrinkle-black trim complete the minimalist Street Bob profile.

The restyled Street Bob leads a 2009 Harley-Davidson Dyna line that blends bold, custom styling with exhilarating, raw-boned street performance. A chopped rear fender and a retro tail light give the Street Bob a new look representing the best in old school “garage engineering.”

The Harley-Davidson Dyna family has its roots in the factory-custom revolution of the 1970s. These five motorcycles pair Big Twin performance with an extended FX front end. Dyna has always had a reputation for great handling, with loads of attitude that appeals to riders with a strong inclination for independent thinking.

All Dyna models feature a new silver-face speedometer with fuel range read-out, a new low-profile front fender and a new fuel sender. A 1584 cc Twin Cam 96 powertrain with Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI) mated to the 6-Speed Cruise Drive transmission cranks out 92 ft.-lbs. of torque at 3000 rpm. Common Dyna characteristics include the under-seat battery box, exposed rear shock absorbers, and a classic Fat Bob fuel tank with console.

Harley Davidson FXDC Dyna Super Glide Custom (2008)

People say that you’re either a Harley person or you’re not, and if I must fall on one side or the other of the divide then it’s simple—I’m not. An Electra Glide from a fall tour four years ago was my first Harley ride, and compared to the BMW and Honda on the trip it felt antiquated. The chassis flexed unacceptably cornering at just a moderate pace, and what the engine lacked in power it compensated for by squirming excitedly about on its mounts.

Next came a Heritage Softail that looked so close to a 1950s Panhead that it made your eyes water. But the brakes were poor and the fork bobbed freely and made loud clanking noises. We wondered if the fork lacked oil, but when it was returned and examined, they told us that it was working as designed. But you can’t dismiss a company that sells 300,000 motorcycles annually, because what they’re making appeals to a lot of people, even if it’s not you. Was I missing something, is there a quality that only a Harley-Davidson possesses?

Occasionally I’d see a Harley on the road and my head would whip around, but it was never the Heritage models or the bombastic Fat Bobs or the slammed V-Rods that caught my eye. What I’d notice were models that looked, to my sensibilities, like regular motorcycles. No ape hanger handlebar, no exaggerated footpeg placement that shoved feet toward the front wheel and no tires so fat that they looked plucked from a half-ton. So I did what anybody would do. I went to the Harley website and spent an afternoon looking at pictures and jotting down specifications, and what I came up with was the FXDC Dyna Super Glide Custom. The rear tire is 160 mm wide, skinny by current cruiser standards; the footpegs are mid-mounted, according to Harley nomenclature, and the handlebar sits below the shoulders. Unfortunately there was no Super Glide in the press fleet, but with the help of Deeley’s Alex Carroni, who liberated one from the staff pool, I set out on my trip down Highway 7

Motorcycle magazine people, and I include myself among them, test cruisers by seeing how much metal they can grind off the pipes or the footboards by riding too aggressively. But no one who buys them rides like that, so taking my cue from the Glide in Super Glide, I left the city and rode at speeds between 80 km/h and 120 km/h. Mechanically, the Super Glide impressed. The rubber-mounted engine was smooth, quiet and powerful. The six-speed transmission shifted positively and quietly with short lever throw and the clutch action was light. The single disc brake looked like it would be overwhelmed by 307 kg (677 lb) of Milwaukee beef, but with a four-fingered squeeze at the lever and full use of the rear brake stopping didn’t cause concern.

Once, I cut off the fairly straight Highway 7 down a favourite twisty road and reverted to my old ways. Even with the pipes dragging around a sweeping bend at 140 km/h the bike was composed, and didn’t show any of the wobbles of the earlier Harley I’d ridden. But when I flew over a set of train tracks I slowed and behaved for the rest of the trip; the reality of limited suspension travel and a deeply dished seat means that there is little mediation between the bump on the ground and the whack to the spine.

What was most peculiar about the Super Glide was that the riding position, that looks so neutral in photographs, was odd to acclimatize to. The footpeg location neither bent the knees too much nor stretched the leg too straight, but something in the seat to peg -relationship caused an uncomfortable ache in my hips that I’d never experienced on a motorcycle before. Perhaps it’s that to clear the exhaust pipes and the primary chain case the footpegs are widely spaced, or maybe it’s just my body travelling past another signpost of decay, but regardless of the reason, I had to limit riding to no longer than an hour at a time.

I did something on this trip that I’ve rarely been able to do before; enjoy going slow. And the Super Glide had everything to do with it. At speeds over 110 km/h the cruiser riding position uses the body as a sail and exhausts arms and jams the tailbone into the lip at the rear of the seat. But slowed to 100 km/h or below and burbling along in top gear the bike exuded heaviness, like Led Zeppelin playing Muddy Waters, and ridden like this, the Super Glide was as rewarding, in its own way, as thrashing a superbike at speed. The Super Glide isn’t exactly the motorcycle for me, at least not right now, but it’s much closer to a machine I’d be happy to own than I ever would have expected. (By Neil Graham, May 4, 2009)

Harley Davidson FXDB Dyna Street Bob (2008)

FXDB Dyna Street Bob again proves less can be more, taking minimalist styling from the post-World War II “bobber” movement to the custom choppers of the 1970s to a modern motorcycle. The Street Bob shuns components like a passenger seat and pegs. A solo seat at 25.8 inches high clearly states that this is a motorcycle for the individualist. Features like a mini ape-hanger handlebar, the classic Fat Bob fuel tank, a wrap-around rear fender and Chrome, Laced Steel wheels combine with the Twin Cam 96 engine for a stylish and powerful ride. A Wrinkle-Black finish applied to the battery box, console and belt guard completes the street-ready look.

HARLEY DAVIDSON Motorcycle

Harley-Davidson (NYSE: HOG, formerly HDI[3]) (often abbreviated H-D or Harley) is an American motorcycle manufacturer. Founded in Milwaukee, Wisconsin during the first decade of the 20th century, it was one of two major American manufacturers to survive the Great Depression. Harley-Davidson also survived a media-accelerated negative image of motorcyclists, a period of poor quality control, and competition with Japanese manufacturers.

The company sells heavyweight (over 750 cc) motorcycles designed for cruising on the highway. Harley-Davidson motorcycles (popularly known as "Harleys") have a distinctive design and exhaust note. They are especially noted for the tradition of heavy customization that gave rise to the chopper-style of motorcycle.[4] Except for the modern VRSC model family, current Harley-Davidson motorcycles reflect the styles of classic Harley designs. Harley-Davidson's attempts to establish itself in the light motorcycle market have met with limited success and have largely been abandoned since the 1978 sale of its Italian Aermacchi subsidiary.

Harley-Davidson sustains a loyal brand community which keeps active through clubs, events, and a museum. Licensing of the Harley-Davidson logo accounts for almost 5% of the company's net revenue.

In addition to manufacturing motorcycles under its own name and its licensing and accessories line, Harley-Davidson's operations include Custom Vehicle Operations, which makes special editions of Harley models with larger engines, sport bike manufacturer Buell Motorcycle Company, and Italian motorcycle manufacturer MV Agusta, including their Cagiva subsidiary.
